A few days ago, we got an unexpected call from the Hollywood Walk of Fame. They said they wanted to honor Tim Burton with a star directly in front of our store. All of us at Hollywood Toys & Costumes were beyond excited to celebrate a true legend who has inspired the lives of millions throughout his Hollywood career, specifically in the genres of fantasy and horror, among many others. But it’s not for the reason you would expect!

While there’s no question that most of you are familiar with Tim Burton’s iconic status, one thing you may not know is that he has been a customer of Hollywood Toys & Costumes for decades! Check out this article posted by Secret LA to get a glimpse into Burton’s childhood, and the role that HT&C played in the formative years of his early career. 

Sometimes he would visit us to buy magic tricks, pranks, or masks, etc., but more often would just to browse the store to expand the same imagination that would later be used as inspiration for his films! Given our long-standing relationship with Mr. Burton, we felt that the Hollywood Walk of Fame made the perfect choice in selecting Hollywood Toys & Costumes’ storefront to memorialize Mr. Burton’s legacy!

But guess what that means for you, our customers?! The love and respect we have for Tim Burton also means that the Starring Ceremony can’t be a casual, blasé one. We really have to Show Up, both inside and outside of the store! So we hope you will join us on Tuesday, September 3rd for an exciting and memorable day!

Tim Burton’s Starring Ceremony at Hollywood Toys & Costumes

We can’t give out too many details so as not to ruin the surprise, but trust us when we say that Tim Burton’s Starring Ceremony will be wonderfully glorious, horrifying, and, in a Burtonesque manner, a bit weird. The good weird!

For one, members of Warner Brothers will be present, so there may or may not be some original items brought from the set of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. But one thing is for sure. You may not get another chance to see them again! Plus, we’ll add a bit of our own creative flare to the outside of the store to support the Beetlejuice vibe. 

Of course, as Tim Burton is well-loved among his peers, and Hollywood always has some stars hanging out around the area, you can expect to see some of them at the ceremony. Mr. Burton himself will be staying in our store until it’s time to walk out on the red carpet! However, just hosting him at our store is not the best we can do – the best way to honor Tim Burton is with something we both love – costumes! 

That’s why we’ve cleared out a whole section of our store and will dedicate an entire wall to Tim Burton costumes you can get on the spot, in addition to many animatronics, props, house and lawn decorations, wigs, and make-up kits. 

We’d really love to say more, but we can’t. There are quite a few surprises in store. We hope you can come and experience it on September 3rd! If you can’t, our friends from Secret LA will be at the event, so follow them to experience a bit of the atmosphere online. As we said, there is a plethora of Tim Burton costumes you’ll be able to get at HT&C after the Starring Ceremony – here are some of our picks from several of our favorite movies and TV shows.

Costumes from Beetlejuice

As Tim Burton’s Starring Ceremony will largely be in the spirit of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, we also have to contribute. Most people like to be the star of the show, so aim straight for the center – dress up in a men’s Beetlejuice costume! However, who says only men can be the main character? We also have a (sexy, mind you) women’s Beetlejuice costume for you to wear. 

For now, we have these and a few others for you to wear, but a huge selection will be available from September! What we currently have a huge selection of, is props, animatronics, decorations, and costumes from The Nightmare Before Christmas.

If Betel Geuse Jr. is the master of, in his words, bio-exorcism, the only person who can compete in the artistry of scaring humans is the Pumpkin King himself, Jack Skellington. So, if you want to find your eternal rival at Tim Burton’s Starring Ceremony, you might consider dressing up as the main character from The Nightmare Before Christmas – either by wearing a Jack Skellington mask or going full-out and dressing in this Jack Skellington kit. 

But what’s a king without a queen? We also have a full Sally costume that would go great with Jack Skellington… a light bulb just went off. If you and your partner love horror and fantasy and have friends who love the same, what would be the ideal double date? Just imagine attending Tim Burton’s Starring Ceremony as Beetlejuice and Lydia and Jack and Sally!

If you are bringing kids along, don’t worry, we have a lot of The Nightmare Before Christmas children’s costumes, too. For the smallest ones, we have an adorable Oogie Boogie baby costume. Older kids might want to dress up in a children’s Jack Skellingoton or children’s Sally costume, just like the adults. 

Plus, since Halloween is right around the corner, you can find some great props if you’re hosting, like this prop of Zero to use as a greeter and an airblown hanging Jack Skellington or an inflatable Jack Skellington with working lights! You can also opt for Jack Skellington string lights to round up the Halloween décor.

OK, Beetlejuice and The Nightmare Before Christmas are meant to be scary, but the most frightening of all of Tim Burton’s works is, for us, Alice in Wonderland. And that’s why we appreciate it. Even if you don’t feel the same, you may love it for different reasons. So, we can help you dress as the White Rabbit by getting this White Rabbit headpiece or go as Alice herself by wearing this classic Alice costume. Then again, a girl could always choose to wear a Mad Hatter costume!
